Damazan vs St Aulaye 24/05/ 2015

League Match V/s St Aulaye 24 May 2015

This was third League match of Damazan CC against St Aulaye CC an away game.  Gagan picked the youngsters from Agen n headed to St Aulaye  a distance of about 200 kms. Damazan 11 arrived well in time. St Aulaye had all Asian, youngsters from Pakistan n India,  a nice young squad.
Damazan captain Gagandeep Singh won the toss and took charge of the batting along with Peter Mathews.  Both the openers faced the quick bowing of young speedsters with extreme caution.
In 6th over Peter was caught behind for 6 at 20. Next ball, inexperienced youngster Munir Rehman was caught off Bilal M. Mike Gear gave good support to Gagan who kept stroking the ball all over.  Gagan was on 40 in a score of 48 after 10 over.  With Mike Gear and Gagan, Damazan looked moving for 180+ but it was not to be. Mike Gear edged one on to his stumps.  Shafi started stylishly with a boundary  but was soon out for 7.
Then came the big blow, Gagan was caught behind for 46 off Daniel. Then Harron was Lbw for a duck.
Ali scored 2. Richard Lytton n Swaran Singh took the score to 100 when Richard ran sans co ordination leaving Swaran's inexperienced runner in  complete confusion. Swaran run out for 7, Richard Lytton was bowled soon for 13. Gary Stark n Mike Frewin tried to face the quick attack but unfortunately Gary was run out. The score stood at 101 with a tint of another defeat drawn out on the faces of Damazan players. To add salt to Damazan's  injury, one of the St Aulaye  players kept shouting, " Let us finish the match in 15 overs ".
St Aulaye served a nice Rice n Chicken Curry from Chef Irfan Sheikh's Restaurant. Thank you Saint Aulaye.
St Aulaye openers M Adnan & T. Ahmed opened the innings steadily taking 17 runs from first five overs.  In sixth over it all changed with Adnan hitting  28 runs off Harron with two sixes & four boundaries.  After sixth over score stood at 46.  St Aulaye players were in great cheers; one of the cheerleaders again shouting, "Ok, let us finish it in 10 overs  guys. Go for it".
Gagan, disappointed as any skipper would be in this position, looked away to the player who was hurling insult yet again. Certainly with half the runs done in six overs, all the Damazan players having woken up early n traveled so far in hope of a victory were all sad n heart broken.
Gagan was however bowling  tight . In three overs, he had bowled two maidens. When he took charge of the 7th over, wind was blowing across. The batsmen were in high cheers. Adnan kept on attacking Gagan but it was not Haroon's pace.
Gagan kept the ball swinging, bouncing n beating the batsman with Keeper Gary Stark collecting everything with nuclear precision. The last two balls of the seventh over proved crucial.  Adnan tried to hit fifth ball Gagan had given extra bounce with his wrist resulted in a  skier dropping straight into the  waiting hands of Peter Mathews. The very next ball  Bilal M was caught behind by Gary Stark. Et bien! Gagan was on a hat trick.
Shafi  came in place of Harron & bowled with only 4 runs in his first over as butcher of Damazan had already been murdered by Gagan.
Then Gagan came in to bowl his 9th over of the inning on a hat trick.  Daniel M  was the third victim caught again neatly by keeper Gary Stark off Gagan.  Et encore? It did not finish with a hat trick , Gagan struck again in the over as Irfan Sheikh was easily caught by Ali Sajjad at extra cover.  Next,  Shafi bowled a maiden 10th over with a pin drop silence in the stands. Scoreboard at 54 for 5. Peter Mathews, Mike Gear n Gagan jointly kept on consulting on the fielding network after each over. Batsmen, shocked at the changing complexion of the game buckled under pressure.  11th over again was a maiden by Gagan as Batsmen got stuck in a jam.  54 for 5. In 12th over Shafi removed opener T. Ahmed who was still hanging around on 17. Gary Stark took another fine catch taking his tally of catches behind the wicket to 3. Well done Gary for your brilliant keeping. However it was not all finished. Waqqas Khalid, a very aggressive batsman was still at the crease. Gagan got him with his out swinging  rising ball which batsman skied to deep extra cover where a brilliant catch was taken by running Shafi in the same direction of the ball.
Scoreboard  55 for 5.  Then came in the shouting cheerleader of St Aulaye, still hopeful with a glint of self centered hope in his eyes. He found out that it was not so easy as an in swinging  yorker from Gagan found him plum in front of the middle stump quickly sending him back from where he had come.
In sixteenth over of the innings and Shafi's 5th over, he took two wickets in two balls both clean bowled pegging himself on a hat trick.  Well Shafi has to wait for next league match against Mansley on 7th June
at Damazan to complete his hat trick. That I would report was one of the most exciting wins for Damazan CC. Gagan, with his 6 wickets for 14 runs ripped apart the opposition &  deserves plenty of appreciation.    Gary stark is our hero number two, who took three brilliant  catches n not a single miss. Shafi 3 wickets for 13 & a brilliant catch is also our hero.  Thanks to Mike Gear, Peter Mathews, Mike Frewin & Richard Lytton for their tremendous solidarity in making this win possible. This season Damazan CC has two wins & two losses in four matches. Cheers!!!!
