    Damazan vs Eymet

Sunday 17 May 2015

Damazan won the toss . Peter Mathews n Richard Lytton opened the innings to evergreen n fit Nigel Jones and Bangladeshi Jooman. Both the batsmen showed patience by defending their wicket to fast swinging deliveries of the opening attack. The score moved to 28 in 7th over when Richard in his stylish Australian hat edged one to wicketkeeper with his glove. The second change bowlers were even more accurate n quick, Ahmad J claiming Richard Lytton & Ahmad S taking the prize wicket of Mike Gear. Gagan started with a four but being unlucky was given lbw to a rising delivery which was missing the stumps . The young hope of Damazan diminished quickly with Shafique given run out.  Swaran Joined Peter Mathews but Peter also fell to an edge to wicket keeper off Nooman. Nooman bowled Goffie & then Swaran  cleanly beating them by his speed. With 55 for 7 Damazan was struggling to save its dignity. It was over to 17 years old Muhammad Rehman who remained not out with 14. Muhammad  was given good support  by other two 17 years old Ali 8 & Haroon 8. Gary stark was again given out caught behind while unhappy Garry showed us the blue on his elbow. The end came at 92.
An excellent lunch break was offered by Eymet. Fresh sandwitches , lovely cakes & hot tea was  served by a generous Lady & David Horlock to all. Thank you all  Eymet.
The second half was not one sided. Shafique removed the opening  bat Simon Palmer quickly.   Shafique again struck removing Ahmad J for 9. On the other end  Gagan bowled rythemic 7 overs with just 14 runs. David Horlock was also trapped leg before by Shafique for 7. Gagan clean bowled Owais 6 to make it 52 for 4. Then came Ben Delenay who hit Shafique for two sixes making it look it was all over. But Haroon quickly struck Delenay  15 caught by Mike Frewin fielding as substitute at mid off. It should be mentioned that this was  second brilliant catch this season by Mike F. Mike also caught Swaran's flashing shot against Crosskeys CC in the opening match at Damazan while playing for the visitors. Haroon struck again removing young Nooman for 3. Eymet were 90 for 6 with all its top firing guns gone. However if only Damazan  had 30 more runs the match could have had different result. After playing their first league match against Bordeaux, it is evident that Damazan has still not found its rhythm. However the next match at St Aulay, who has greater number of young & experienced Asian players will be our next battle with Goffie not available. The standard of cricket has gone up in South west of France. Gone are the days of loose bowling with the influx of Asians. League games demands fitness n technique which we at Damazan yearn for.
The challenge now is different & greater.
