Damazan vs Cross Keys 03/05/2015

Damazan vs Cross Keys 3rd of May
The first match of the season with a new look Damazan, transforming Damazan into Damazan Dad's and lads. This 35 over match was played under rather grey conditions. Cross Keys won the toss and sent Damazan in to bat first. Cross Keys opening bowlers Simpson and Abrahams bowled quite well and Damazan got off to a slowish start. With the fall of the first wicket Shafiq was welcomed to the crease for his first match for Damazan, after a scratchy start he got into his stride and clubbed the bowling high and wide, he was accompanied by Swaran Singh and Goffi. In the end Damazan made 8 for 157 which was a reasonable total given the slow outfield. Shafiq made a fine 61, Goffi 17 and Swaran 14.  For Cross Keys Simpson bowled well taking 2 for 29 and Watkinson 2 for 15.
> The best tea ladies in south west cricket put on the usual high class spread- thanks Sheila and Linda. Then the Cross Keys lads were ready to chase the 158 needed for victory. Unfortunately for Cross Keys they began to lose wickets at regular intervals  and never really got a sufficient run rate going. Transformed spin ace Goffi bowled at scintillating pace with a great line and was well rewarded and with Gagan Singh coming on 1st change there was little chance for Cross Keys. Shafiq and Swaran ripped through the middle and lower order finally dismissing Cross Keys for 83. All the bowlers performed and the fielding was, well, probably the best seen from a Damazan side. Swaran Singh took 3 for 11, Shafiq 3 for 13 and Goffi 2 for 12. For Cross Keys Jones stood alone,  finally run out on 29. It was that man Shafiq who threw down the stumps from side on, undoubtedly the man of the match.
> A welcome goes out to all the new players Shafiq, Ali, Haroon and Mohamad who all performed exceptionally well given it was their first match for Damazan and their first game in several years!
> A welcome also goes out to a past member of Damazan Mike Gear who is a classic batsman of high skill- welcome back Mike. From the look of this first match Damazan will provide a match to whatever club we play against in the 2015 season.
> Thanks to the players from Cross Keys who stuck to the guns and played a closer match than the scores indicated. Some of their catches were quite unbelievable. Champagne moment must go to the blinder of a catch taken by our very own Mike Frewin who played for Cross Keys, despite nearly losing a finger a few days ago he gobbled up a flashy smash off Swaran- classic catch.
