Damazan Vs Catus 31/05/ 2015

Damazan Vs Catus 31st May 2015

Damazan batted first against Catus CC. Catus came without their Asian boys but not without dangerous Ken Sutton , Martin Cavanag, K. Keeble & N.Robson to name a few. It should be reported that Catus has won all three of their League games played by them in the southern pool. Captain Gagan Singh did not bowl or bat. Jean Claude kept the wicket for Damazan as Gary was away in U.K.  Shafi Ahmed & Mike Frewin were not available.
Peter Mathews n Mike Gear opened the innings for Damazan. Both stalwarts settled quickly with Peter playing the aggressive part. Knowing that Mike Gear kept rotating the strike with Peter reaching his excellent 119 not out with 21 boundaries, his highest score till date. Peter retired in 25th over to let Goffie in. Goffie quickly hit two excellent boundaries but was caught off a clever Cavanag delivery for 10 . Then Swaran joined Mike Gear. Gear completed his fifty and started hitting all over as play had entered 30th over. Mike raced to 80 with    12 x 4 & 2 x 6, while he drove one straight into the hands off Mystry.J in 34th over. Mike played text book cricket till he reached fifty but then flashing  30 runs in 3 overs, he proved that he can be very quick if he decides to.              Swaran kept hitting anything in his radar but could only connect a few. Muhammad  Munir was at crease to play last over and displayed a fine knack of timing the ball. Swaran Singh  9 & Muhammad 2 remained not out with score finally reaching 229 for 2. Peter Mathew's & Mike Gear's fine knock has raised the confidence level of Damazan team for the next league match against Mansle.
Sheila served the refreshments as Linda was busy at home. Thank you Sheila. David Atkins & David M deserve a special thanks for keeping the ground in great shape.
Second half started with Richard Lytton taking charge of the bowling from Challets end. Richard  bowled well and finished his 7 overs by giving away 31 runs &  took a wicket on his last ball. Gagan tried Ali but Catus openers hit him for 20 runs in 2 overs.             Ali was replaced with Haroon from the camping end who bowled accurate giving away just 18 runs in his 6 overs. He took the valuable wicket of opener Stirling clean bowled for 14. Goffie bowled 5 overs for 25 runs.
Swaran clean bowled Cavanag with a straight ball putting an end to his well earned innings of 20 runs. The score was 96 for 3. Swaran finished his 7 overs for 30 runs. The play was in its 25th over & Ken needed to catch up with 230. Gagan brought in Mike Gear who bowled excellent line n length in his first three overs. Mike took 3 quick wickets making sure it would be difficult for Catus to reach anywhere closer to 230. In 35 overs Catus could only make 183 with Ken Sutton 60 not out. Damazan earned its third victory of the season.
