Damazan vs Bordeaux 10/05/2015

Damazan versus Bordeaux played on 10/05/2015 by Peter Matthews

A beautiful warm early May day that was perfect for a game of cricket. Damazan were looking forward to their first league match in about 8 years. The toss was won by Bordeaux & the Captain had no hesitation in batting first. The Damazan strip generally plays well & the outfield was in beautiful condition after many hours work by the ground staff.
Smith & Khan decided attack was the best option & in 5 overs the score was 31. Bowlers Haroon & Goffi desperately tried to change this, Smith sliced a ball to Richie who caught it at point. The scoring slowed & soon after on 22, A. Khan was caught at mid-of by Shaffi. In the 17th over Nyeem fell LBW to Gagan who was bowling well & keeping the scoring to a minimum. After 20 overs Bordeaux were on 80, Damazan players were quietly content. The final dozen overs saw Bordeaux quickly move on from 110 to 219. Luqman batted well but was dropped twice, he was finally caught on 46. Each new batsman added runs quickly knowing there were several wickets in hand. Rameez hit the ball sweetly with perfect timing & rattled the score along before he was caught by the keeper, Gary. The later overs from Damazan began to get a little ragged & the batsmen took advantage. Wides added up to 30, the bowlers will need to learn quickly. Bordeaux ended on 219 for 6, Luqman 46, Rameez 36 & Trelawny 28no. Goffi 3 for 44 off 6 & Gagan 1 for 13 off 7.
Lyn produced her tea that everyone seemed to enjoy & while the Damazan players ate their cake they had time to think about how they had let Bordeaux get away from them.
Openers Swaran & Haroon took to the strip & then Haroon immediately walked back to the pavilion on nought. Mike Gear took the number 3 position & never looked in trouble but having said that, he couldn't throw off the shackles & he found it very difficult to score runs. With the batsmen hardly troubling the scorers the match was effectively finished after 12 overs with the score only reaching 15. Swaran was out in the 15th over but had only accumulated 5 runs. Gagan went in, scored a few & within 4 overs was out again. Shaffi joined Mike, hit 2 sixes & was then clean bowled. Pete went in at number 6 & faced 3 overs or so of 'proper' bowling, at this point the Bordeaux Captain knew the game was theirs & decided to bowl the 3rd & 4th stream bowlers. Mike was out LBW on 22 then two others were out cheaply until Rehman came in to partner Pete. Pete simply played steadily but Rehman tried slaughtering every ball, it wasn't elegant but it was effective. Damazan ended on 156 for 7. Rehman 31no, Pete 29no & Mike 22. Usman 3 for 4 off 6 overs, Momo 2 for 11 off 6.
An excellent solid all round performance from Bordeaux, they deserved their victory. Damazan will have to learn quickly in all departments, too many wides, dropped 5 or 6 catches & poor batting.
